Simulator Training

Senior students serve as clinical preceptors for first year students doing anesthesia training scenarios on the new METI patient simulator.  The simulator provides an interactive system to teach both psychomotor skills and crisis resource management for anesthesia students.
Shown above from left to right of top row are Meisha Robinson, Lisa Ray, Mandrill Montgomery, Carol Makla, and on bottom row Kristen Sterling.
Shown at left is senior preceptor Lisa Ray demonstrating intubation technique while waveform monitor in background  displays vital physiological parameters.

Hurricane Katrina Relief Volunteers!

Members from the Class of 2006 Masters of Nurse Anesthesia Program left on Sunday morning September 12 for Biloxi, Mississippi, they are to return on Sunday, September 19th: Pam Ozalak, Robin Hodge, Richard Wilson, Mandi Denise, Erica Kelly, Heather Houston, Benita Branyon, and Philip Hampton.

These students are volunteering a week of their time and nursing skills to relieve greatly overworked members of the nursing staff at Biloxi Regional Medical Center. The nursing staff at this hospital have been working around the clock since Katrina hit. Some did not even leave the hospital there for 7 - 10 days. This hospital typically sees about 75 - 100 patients a day, the week after Katrina, they saw 800 - 900 patients a day.

Our students were very fortunate to be able to raise funds for their travel; the staff nurse anesthetists at Palmetto Health Richland and the members of the South Carolina Association of Nurse Anesthetists were able to raise a substantial amount of money in order to fund their trip. We are all very thankful for their donations and support.
